Early Intervention Programme/Parents Session (E.I.P)

The Early Intervention Programme (E.I.P) caters for children between 0-4 years old. An individualised learning plan is worked out and parents are encouraged to implement it at home. Relevant talks and discussion sessions are also organised for parents. This programme is currently available in Wisma Harapan, Special School Ipoh Road, Special School Cheras and Special School Klang.

School Programme

An individualised structured educational plan is prepared after assessment. A pre-school programme is also conducted for those admitted early. The pupils are divided into 4 levels that are ability oriented. The curriculum consists of the following: Music and movement, home science, self help skills, art and craft, pre-vocational skills, simple hygiene, interpersonal and socialisation skills and others as necessary. The main objective here is to help the child to be able to cope with everday skills and contribute meaningfully in the community.


Vocational Training Centre

This programme is for children who are 18 years and above and have completed the school programme. The centre consist of a domestic science unit, light carpentry unit, general craft unit, sewing unit and education unit. This programme prepares young people for work and assist in job placements.


Sheltered Workshops

This programme is for students who cannot be placed in the open job market. Contract work such as packing, sorting and others are undertaken to help students in the productive use of their time.

Teacher Education Programme

As there is shortage of trained teachers in the field of mental retardation, the Association organises teacher education programme on a part-time basis. The objectives of this programme are to enable staff working with children of special needs to be competent and accountable in their work; to expose students/parents in the recent techniques and current trends in Special Education and to share experiences and to exchange information as appropriate.

Teacher Education Programme are also open to parents and those who are interested in helping the mentally handicapped. Talk series of workshops are also organised for parents on specific topics periodically.
