Precious Children Home
Precious Children Home is located at No. 11, Lorong 3/57A, 46000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor (behind MPPJ Library Petaling Jaya). Tel: 016 361 4733. The home currently houses 23 children ranging from two to 16 years old. These children are mostly from the streets or whose parents are drug addicts, alcoholics, undergoing rehabilitation program or in prison, and orphans. Currently, these children, except for the youngest, are attending school. 10 are in secondary school, 7 in primary school and 5 in kindergartens. The home does not receive a fixed monthly income. It is now surviving on contributions from the church and individuals. The Needs of Precious Children Home A group of 25 individuals had the initial intention to organise a Christmas party with some gifts for the children. However, after speaking to the administrator of this home, we realized they are in need of other important items. Therefore, we are finding ways to raise funds to help them. The following are the items (with estimated costs) required by the home: i) Replacement of mattresses The mattresses in the home are in very bad condition and need to be replaced immediately. Our aim is to give each child a new mattress.Estimated cost: RM2000 ii) Painting of fences As the home currently houses 23 children, it can become quite noisy. The caretakers would like to put up a fence around the home to filter out the noise, which the neighbours have started to complain about. This project also functions as an interaction programme between the children and adult volunteers during the school holidays. The caretakers want to encourage volunteers to paint together with the children of this home as a way to foster a closer relationship between them. Approximate cost: RM500 iii) Mosquito netting The children of the home also require mosquito nettings in their bedrooms. Approximate cost: RM350 iv) External cabin Due to the limited space in the single storey house, the children are in need of an external cabin in the house compound. The cabin will be used as a library and for the children to study. Estimated cost for a second-hand unit: RM1, 800 v) Small playground Happy children are healthy children! Unfortunately, the children currently do not have any toys to play with during their free time. At times, the children are brought to the nearby playground. However, for safety reasons, the children must always be accompanied by an adult. The small playground will give the children more freedom to play in a safe surrounding. Estimated cost: RM3700 vi) New School Term To raise funds to prepare for the new school term, the children will usually do some carolling for homes and hotels. The funds are needed to buy the usual necessities such as school fees, stationery, school books, shoes, bags, uniforms etc. Estimated cost: RM2000 Passion Craftswork In order to raise money, the group is making and selling Passion Craftswork jewellery, handcrafted pearl and crystal bracelets, earrings, and necklaces. All profits will go to Precious Children Home. You can view or download the Passions Craftswork catalogues from here.
